Preparation and Thermal Conductivity of Copper Plated Carbon Fiber Dispersed Steel Matrix Composites

Since the die-casting mold repeats rapid heating and cooling during operation, defects such as heat checks generate. Therefore, quality life of are degraded. To improve these demerits, improvement thermal conductivity material is effective. In this study, carbon fibers were added to SKD61(40CrMoV5) tool steel fabricate composites with high conductivity. fiber has a chemical reaction steel, electroless copper plating was applied suppress reaction. The fabricated by unidirectional arrangement spark plasma sintering. results obtained follows. 1) Carbon fiber/SKD61(40CrMoV5) relative density obtained. It considered that plated on acted sintering accelerator. Furthermore. remained around in composite, it seems prevented direct between steel. 2) had higher than monolithic block. As increasing content, increases. 5 vol% copper-plated have 42 W/mK.
